As a child, Ashley began taking piano lessons in the first grade. This became the foundation for her appreciation for music. Through the next few years she grew in her knowledge of music and in the fourth grade began thinking about what instrument she wanted to play in the band at school the next year. Her mother's old flute was sitting at home so Ashley decided to play the flute since one was readily available. Little did Ashley know that she would grow to love the instrument and later study it in college.
Through her years in elementary band and then high school band Ashley's love for music grew even more. She continued taking piano lessons up through the 9th grade. Ashley's flute lessons began in the 4th grade and continued all the way through high school. Throughout those years, Ashley competed in the state CACS competitions winning first and second place several years in the woodwind solo category. In the same competitions, she placed first with another girl in her school in flute duet which they took to Nationals (AACS) in Greenville, SC. In the high school band Ashley was first chair 7th-12th grade and also began playing the piccolo in 9th grade.
During her senior year of high school, Ashley began looking into what she would like to study in college. The Lord led Ashely to study music performance at Pensacola Christian College. While attending PCC she was involved in symphonic orchestra, symphonic band, woodwind ensemble, commencement contests, Rejoice Orchestra for televised broadcasts, and was a session player for Rejoice in the Lord recording studio. Ashley received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music in May of 2011. Although she had learned so much through her many music classes and especially through private lessons Ashley knew there was still a whole lot more that she could learn. Therefore, Ashley chose to continue her studies at PCC with a Master of Science Degree in Music Education and graduated in May of 2013. In her last year of each of these degrees Ashley put on a flute recital in partial fulfillment of these degrees. It was during the preparation for these recitals that Ashley grew to love performing.
In her spare time, Ashley enjoys composing and arranging music, practicing flute and piano, singing, and reading.
